Sharon tells me my view of Melbourne is consistent in its focus on lonely laneways. I agree with her about the laneway part (there are just so many of them!), but sometimes I do chance upon some people. Here, we have a whole set – the harried businessman striding purposefully towards the car park, the younger man taking a break leaning against the wall, and a group (of long-lost friends?) forming opposite…

This is one of my favourite Melbourne laneways; it’s featured here many times. I think it’s the combination of architectural styles – the dome in the background providing a classical oversight of the younger, more angular upstarts in front of it. A relatively new cafe has opened, which has added to the visual interest of the laneway, as it means there are generally large numbers of people sitting around. There’s always something happening here…

Unlike yesterday’s shot, these windows are most definitely there. I really like this building – it’s so reflective and the windows produce interesting distortions. You can’t see many of those here of course, but I liked the contrast in the frame between the very orderly grid on the right, versus the randomness of the clouds on the left. There’s just a slight ghost cloud forming in the reflection on the glass, as though it can’t quite be contained…
