Hello. I’m back. Did you miss me yesterday? And the day before? My, how time passes. As I promised (threatened?) at the end of my project, I have a few ideas that I’m working on. One of them is a retrospective. 365 images are a lot to take in; a day at a time, certainly, and even more so when they are all laid out in front of me. So to help me make sense of the work, I’ve decided to choose one image from each 30 days of the project – the one that stands out to me the most, for whatever reason. So, for the first 30 days, my choice is simple – Day 18:

I’m not sure what it is about this shot that I like – something technical I suspect, because it’s quite a formal image. Something about the geometry? Certainly the mid tones. It was shot on my Nikon D700, using the DX format 35mm f/1.8 lens. It was shot wide open, because that’s the best way to minimise vignetting with that lens, which was never designed to cover the sensor image of the D700 but did so admirably. Was this my first rekindling of my love for that focal length? I think it may have been. So, for those of you who came to this journey later in the piece, I hope you enjoyed this look back at my early days, learning to see and see anew. Next time – days 31-60. Much more difficult to choose in that period I suspect…
